With support from the Coalition for Rainforest Nations the Office of Climate Change is holding a Greenhouse Gas Inventory Capacity Building Workshop. The purpose of the greenhouse gas inventory is to provide a clear picture of the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activity as against what is absorbed by the natural environment. This information is essential not only for keeping Guyana’s obligations to report these emissions internationally but for key decision-making locally.
Previously there has been a heavy reliance on foreign expertise in the preparation of this data. One of goals of the workshop is to further prepare stakeholders from the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors to identify and collect data needed for compilation of the inventory.
